Catherine Turner

Discipleship Pastor

What is your role at HOPE, in your own words?

I help others grow in/toward/for Christ, so that they can go and do likewise.

What’s your favorite verse/passage of scripture and why?

1 Peter 5:10 “And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to is eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.”

Peter reminds us that while suffering in this life is guaranteed, God promises our restoration through faith in Christ. The shifts our perspective: from focusing on what’s hard, to holding on to what is holy.

What year did you start coming to HOPE? Working at HOPE?

Started attending HOPE in 2014; joined the team in 2023.

What’s something that brings you joy?

Although I sometimes get caught up in the details beforehand, I truly enjoy having people over to share a meal together. It reminds me why this was the context for the early Church.

What’s your go-to comfort food or coffee order?

Chips & salsa/guacamole.

If you could instantly become an expert in something, what would it be?

American Sign Language – I love communicating with people and talk with my hands frequently, so ASL would help me connect with more people.

What’s something people might not know about you?

My family has 2 retired racing greyhounds that we spoil and enjoy being a part of the larger community of adopters of James River Greyhounds.
